How solar energy works
  1. Solar panels - The panels are made of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity throughout the day.
  2. Inverter - Converts the direct current (DC) electricity generated by the panels into the alternating current (AC) electricity.
  3. Switchboard - The AC electricity is sent from the inverter to your switchboard and then into your home to power your lights and appliances.
  4. Two-way meter - The two-way meter measures your energy use.  When the solar system generates more power than you immediately need, the surplus is sent back to the grid.
  5. Power grid - Your home is still connected to the grid which powers your home at night and when sunlight levels are low.
  6. In-home monitoring - We monitor the system's generation and so can you with our solarZero app. It also helps turn your house into a smart home.  
  7. Solar battery - Stores excess solar energy generated during the day so it can be used at night or when sunlight levels are low. Can also provide backup emergency supply.
